Final Presentation.








































During our interviews we met Nazli and her husband. one of the stories form nazli that stood out to us was their 3 month travel from western europe to eastern china on their honeymoon. during this entire trip nazli had to limit herself with buying souvenirs because they were backpacking and space was limited. because of this we saw an opportunity to reduce the clutter of sentimental objects but still preserve the stories and memories associated with them.


A solution we developed is the memory beads. these come in a variety of colors and can be strung together as a bracelet or necklace. because they are individual machines, you can collect as many of these beads to store you memories as you want. you can also pick and choose which ones you want to wear on you at any given point.


Some of the features are its ability to record voice, video and images. it is easily operated by controlling one scroll button with one hand. all the data can be wirelessly backuped so that you wont have to worry about losing your recordings and memories. video voice, and images can be projected so that you can carry your stories and share them whenever and wherever you want to. biometrics keep your memories personal so you can feel confident about its security.

design Research week14 ! Rehearsal





Nowadays, people are more and more not satisfied with they own. Gradually, we become more and more greedy and what everything. When we got too many things that we started to think "hey, do I really need this stuff?" So that's why we start to discuss this "right-size" and "enoughness" issue.To review our design research procedure, we construct our project by step by step. From the beginning to now, from the Alemany flea market to memory beads, through many lectures and discussions, I believe that I've learned a lot of things and experiences. Also, thanks for IDEO's research method, it can not only use on design research but also other career. I trust that this method could use on my father's company to help him solve issues after I go back home.

Design Research week12 ! Prototype designs and findings

I have to say sorry to H.I.P. because we left it and say good bye.

However we are going to our final project! The "memory beads"!



Actually the "memory beads" is also the original idea from the super sentimental group. I feel like I am going to reunion with my separated child after many years.


Last week every group had interview with other 3 interviewees and received new feedback. Also the last group revised the modify the bead's shape and function. The bead became more fashion and functional. Although many people may ask why we want to develop this bead, it is just like the normal recorder. However, it is not a common recorder, it is a recorder with sentimental!


For example, there's one day your grandmother told you a family story. Situation 1: It is so unbelievable and astonishing. Situation 2: It is so lovely and so heart touching. You was so shock and impressive but did not have anything to write it down. Then memory beads is your best choice to record everything!


I wish this product would be real many years ago that I really could record my grandmother's voice to instead carrying the Buddha beads which she gave me before she passed away.


We believe that the voice could make people feel more emotional. Without the visual, you only can use hearing to pay attention on things. It would improve you to memorize things hardly. Also it is wearable, so you can share your story when you walk on the street.


After rebuilt the model and talked about what's the next step. We thought we've been ready.

· 1.wheel to control the size of the holograph:

o for example, if I went to the pyramids and want to make them a table piece, I don’t want them projected full size, but like trinket size.

2.what about the speaker?? sound?:

o we also have recorded sound – wifi/Bluetooth can connect our projector to outside audio system

3. size of projection?:

o room size projections or smaller

4. every time you turn on and off it will save file/new file to prevent mishaps with the files

1.virtual screen/interface, why not just control everything virtually?:

· 2.what if I don’t want to wear my camera over my ear all the time?:

· 3.how about a GPS tracking/satellite recording system instead of camera?:

o like cloud computing

· 4.thinks the size of the projector is waaaaay too big

· 5.don’t need the lens, projectors now don’t even have that shape, very 80s.

1.internet connection possibilities:

o where you can upload videos directly on to the internet

2.google map – like map tracking of vacation routes:

o people can see where you went on vacation

o like/dislike function, grading system like “yelp”

· 3.shaky images if you’re carrying the camera around:

o maybe something like anti-shock software or the projector can filter out movement to create the perfect hologram

· 4.camera can connect to the TV or other screens:

o but then it’s only a 2D image – like video camera

o make it into an accessory on the cell phone or other electronics

o use the cell phone screen as the interface controller for the holographic images

6.battery life?:

o will you bring this on vacation? if so, what about battery life and how to recharge the machine.

Base in HWMs, how to make the prototypes.



a. rapid prototyping



1. inspire, evole execute

2. rough, rapid , right


r: just enough profuction value to express the idea

r: whtat can oyu build in 10m 20 m 30m

r: focus on the right thing, what the least mature part of our idea? the hardest to explain?


b. Low risk: conducted with a safe audience, at a minimal cost(guideline: under $100)

c. Quick and easy: easy to build, easy ti test( guideline: under 1 hour)

d. Generative: on target to answer a question that will grow the idea

e. making the prototype! use every different material to simulate your prototype


I still remember that when I was a kid, I dreamed that one day i could be a inventor. Maybe it is the reason that I like to do design and some handcrafts. Model making is always one of my interests because you can use your two hands and ten fingers to fix tens and hundreds parts together and finally it became a tank or a robot. Now we are going to make three prototypes. Base on the lecture, we can follow the steps and main ideas. However, there is always a better way and better idea comes out when you are thinking. then after the discussion, we completed our three prototype as above.






Super Sentimental Group!

Taking Brainstorming with other group in other section brings us more ideas.

When many people provided so many ideas as same time, it was a tremendous view.
But it was really efficient and soon we got so many post-it and even could classify them.
I think these method is really useful to make a second brainstorming for process. With other people's help, the original group is no longer stuck in their rethinking.
